Grove → Drake: Enjoy this cult classic in any way that suits you—counter-clockwise, as an out-and-back, an after-work special, or as extra mileage on your vision quest. Either way, you’ll find yourself grounded in the present, on a winding ribbon connecting the past and future.
“A ribbon winding between the past and future.”
Ascend into the future, with a punchy climb that leads to a re-routed flow-coaster through a silent forest of pines and huckleberries. Grove Creek boasts swooping turns, hidden jibs, and pumpy straights. Keep an eye out for moose, bears, and the occasional mountain lion or squirrel. The climb tops out with a welcome mountain breeze—a perfect pause to either descend or catch your breath and press onward into the past.
The next climb is an old-school lung buster, short but rewarding, with mountain views framed by a kaleidoscope of purples, yellows, and oranges. With views that deserve a moment’s pause, click your suspension to fun and prepare for the descent: a loose, high-speed meadow that gives way to a tight, twisty, rooty, rocky 1,800’ journey to the valley floor. Drake Creek, my friends, is the reason I ride a bicycle—natural, raw singletrack around every corner.
Rider’s note: Always stop and smell the roses.
